Focus on the future: REINTJES publishes its first sustainability report
Sustainability is an important issue for the future of industry, not only because of legal obligations, but also for economic and social reasons.
REINTJES is aware of this responsibility at all levels and is therefore constantly working on appropriate solutions. A decisive step in this direction is the publication of its own sustainability report. The Hameln-based company is now presenting this report for the first time – for 2024.
“When we started planning, we first had to set up all the necessary structures. The truth is that as of the 2025 financial year, certain company parameters would have made it a legal requirement to produce a sustainability report based on an EU directive. This obligation has now been postponed by two years,” explains REINTJES Managing Director Klaus Deleroi.
Climate neutral by 2040
Nevertheless, Deleroi stuck to his decision to produce a sustainability report even without being obliged to do so. The project team did a great job, searching for a software provider for the climate balance sheet and compiling all the key data from all the departments.
The result is a 24-page document containing sustainable information. In addition to targets, procedures, and ratings, the report also takes a close look at the topics of environment, social issues, and governance. The complete document is available to all interested parties here.
“This was a very good test run for us, and we now know how the whole thing works, what content we need, etc., when the reporting requirement finally comes into force,” says Klaus Deleroi.
The REINTJES MD goes on to explain: “We want to be climate neutral by 2040. That means that the upstream and downstream supply chain must also be climate neutral. Planning and preparing all of this takes time.”
How sustainable is REINTJES?
In addition to closely examining the supply chains, climate neutrality requires, among other things, a gradual conversion of production facilities and adapted waste management.
“Of course, we still have room for improvement, but we have already achieved a lot,” summarizes Deleroi. In addition to sustainable products—80 to 90 percent of which are made from recyclable or recycled materials—the company’s energy production in conjunction with a PV system is also impressive.
Then there is the social component: REINTJES is a foundation company that does a lot for its own employees; for example, in the healthcare sector and with its own company daycare centre. With the REINTJES Academy, the company is also setting new standards with inter-company training in the Weserbergland region.
“Finally, we mustn’t forget that the Eugen Reintjes Foundation is actively involved in healthcare and social services in Hameln,” says Deleroi.
