Launch of major project: REINTJES brings XXL 3D printer to life with partners

A few years ago, REINTJES teamed up with partners to develop an XXL 3D printer, which has been in one of the company’s own workshops ever since. Now, a new project called Big InTension is getting underway.

REINTJES is in charge of project management, while Project Management Jülich is the project sponsor. Full partners include Chemnitz University of Technology, TEWISS – Technik und Wissen GmbH, Laser Zentrum Hannover e. V., IPH – Institut für Integrierte Produktion Hannover gGmbH and ARC Solutions GmbH, with Mecklenburger Metallguss GmbH – MMG, ECOROLL AG Werkzeugtechnik and Cadence Design Systems as associated partners.

The project (planned duration: three years) is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) as part of the Maritime Research Programme.

The aim is to develop strategies for dimensional accuracy and precision in the additive manufacturing of large components.

Specifically, this means that the project team wants to be able to control component distortion and internal stresses in the manufacture of ship gearboxes with a 3D printer as effectively as possible. In addition, the use of AI and digital twins is intended to increase the level of automation and digitalisation in production.
