REINTJES sets the tone for hybrid and electric drives

Think Outside the Gearbox! Under this motto, REINTJES is aggressively pursuing its own further development in the field of hybrid and electric drives this year.

The first step was a technical training course lasting several days at Lake Garda. This was organised and planned down to the last detail by REINTJES‘ Italian partner, REINTJES Hybrid Power (RHP).

The main focus of the agenda was to get the managing directors and sales staff from across the REINTJES Group even more committed to the topic and to teach them some important basics.

The technical training session mainly provided answers to three crucial questions: How does hybrid work with REINTJES marine gearboxes? What are the advantages of further hybridisation of the gearboxes? And what about possible scopes of delivery?

Full programme for the REINTJES family

‘Alberto Amici and his team at RHP put together a strong programme, including specialist presentations and discussions. I think that all participants now have a clear understanding of what is important in the field of hybrid and electric drives,’ summarised REINTJES CEO Klaus Deleroi.

The programme focused primarily on providing a wealth of practical insights. During a trip, all participants took a close look at the passenger ship M/S Ander and its hybrid technology.

RHP successfully commissioned the M/S Ander last year in collaboration with a designer and contributed various components in advance.

These included the propulsion system with the electrically driven rudder propeller, the battery pack, the control cabinets and the expertise to coordinate everything and install it appropriately.

REINTJES: towards a green future on many levels

‘The event was a complete success and demonstrated that REINTJES and RHP will shape the future of maritime propulsion technology together,’ Klaus Deleroi notes.

And one of the goals associated with the founding of REINTJES Hybrid Power has already been achieved: to build a specialised team with a wealth of expertise that can then focus entirely on hybrid and electric propulsion systems.

But it is not only the competence centre in Italy that represents a milestone for REINTJES on the road to green propulsion.

Experts in Hameln are also working on exciting projects that contribute to the conversion of conventional gearboxes.

One example in this area is Gearbox Automation. This is a control component that can be built directly onto REINTJES gearboxes since last year and was previously developed in an internal project.
